The old town of Lizy-sur-Ourcq, watered by the Ourcq river and its canal, has exceptional natural surroundings.
The sixteenth-century church of Saint Médard, built from 16th century Varreddes stone, can be visited by appointment.
Also in Lizy is the only painting in the Ile de France region showing how the “flûtes”, boats which sailed on the Ourcq and on the canal, were built. In the nineteenth century, the town was home to 32 of these popular store ships, some of which went as far as Paris.
