Blandy les Tours castle is one of the rare fortified castles of the 14th century that has been preserved and restored, at the gates of Paris. If you love medieval history, come discover Blandy-les-Tours castle, one of the last witnesses of medieval architecture in Ile-de-France, majestically deploying its high curtain walls, machicolated rampart walk, arrow slits, merlons, crenellations, moats, towers, towers, keep, etc.
Shows and concerts in the courtyard or audience room await visitors. The programme invites artists to take the medieval imagination and do everything they can with it. The challenge has gone out to actors and artists to show how bold, brilliant and amazing they can be.

Provins, former capital of the counts of Champagne, town of fairs and UNESCO World Heritage site, will take you back to the Middle Ages. See the fortified gates, ramparts, medieval rooms, tunnels and merchants’ houses.

The 1st Geofestival around Fontainebleau

From April to June 2012

As part of the international year of the forest, the Géomnis association and the Biosphere Reserve have joined forces to offer us another way of looking at the area covered by the Fontainebleau massif and the regional natural park of the Gâtinais français.
With the aim of raising awareness about the environment and sustainable development in a different way, through geology linked to biodiversity and human activities, this geofestival® has taken shape thanks to the collaboration of scientists, artists and the people living in the area chosen, including children.
Unique in France, the Geofestival® offers an original approach and aims to be festive, sporty, convivial and open to everybody. A programme is scheduled for entertaining activities that the whole family can share.

The 1st Geofestival around Fontainebleau

The 1st eco-tourism centre in the Ile-de-Francee  

The 1st eco-tourism centre in the Ile-de-France opens in Fontainebleau forest on May 5th 2011

Right in the heart of the Franchard gorges, the most visited site in Fontainebleau forest, the Ile-de-France’s first eco-tourism centre will open its doors at the beginning of May. As a starting point for many natural heritage sites, this centre will set out to raise public awareness about the challenges for the area as well as controlling the environmental impact of a huge number of tourists visiting this fragile site.
This unique and innovative structure has already won the first prize in the national competition “Les lauriers de la construction bois” in the 2009 public buildings category awarded at the European Exhibition of Wood and sustainable Habitat in Grenoble.
This centre, built entirely from wood, is organized around reception, information and exhibition spaces and has an open hall available for groups and activities. This centre absolutely has to be your starting point for your walks in the forest, as it will give walkers advice as well as inviting them to explore the surrounding natural heritage sites, sometimes less well-known but just as rich.

France’s most beautiful private château offers its visitors a unique experience: a candlelight tour every Saturday night from May to October. Over 2,000 candles flicker in the château and gardens as visitors enjoy a glass of Champagne on the terrace and listen to classical music.

For the first time, Vaux le Vicomte will host a period costume Ball in the Grand Salon after the candle light visit finish at 23 p.m. until 3 a.m.
The ball includes: Baroque music will be played most of the evening. The opening of the Ball will be launched by professionnal baroque dancers, singers and musicians. Then a lesson will allow participants to learn basic baroque dansing moves. By the end of the evening, other music styles may be played.

From 27 to 29 May

Based around the theme of madness and with Italy as guest of honour, the festival is organizing conferences and discussions with the leading names in art history and sociologists as well as artists and collectors.
Taking place inside the château will be educational workshops, forums for discussing the latest topics, the art market, the history of art and new technologies, an art film Festival, (a first in France, with discussions following the screenings and an art film/documentary prize) and a book and art periodicals fair.

"The Arrows of Time" great historical show in Meaux

In its bishop’s palace, Meaux reaches far back into its memory and reproduces the most significant dates in its history from the IXth century to the present day. This moving fresco uses the latest production technologies and features over 500 volunteer actors.

Moataz Nasr, born in Alexandria in 1961, lives and works in Cairo. Present at major international events, the Egyptian artist Moataz Nasr was invited to “take the space over” and set up all along the visitor’s circuit a set of recent works and creations specially designed for the spaces in this fortified castle. Photos, videos, multimedia installations and sound sculptures explore themes, as seen from Cairo, representations and identities of the Arab world and the African continent today.

The Stevenson way was opened a few years ago to commemorate the walk by the famous Scottish author through the forest to see his cousin, who was a painter in Grez. This year’s 13½-mile walk also boasts activities along the way, including readings from Stevenson’s stories and tales, horn blowing, diploma presentations, presents and drinks. The end of the walk promises to be especially festive with a Scottish music concert and the opening of the "Journey with Robert Louis Stevenson" exhibition.

From 10 to 12 December

At the Christmas market, forty or so craftsmen will share their passion for the Middle Ages and crafts that are still practised or have since disappeared. Then on 11 and 12 December, right in the heart of the Saint Quiriace collegiate church a live nativity will recount the life of Saint Francis of Assisi, who travelled with his rich draper father to Provins’ famous fairs. No fewer than 50 actors, an ox, donkey, wolf, sheep, falcon, sheepdogs, the camels of the Three Wise Men and Christmas carols will bring the nativity story to life for you.
