Nicknamed "the Venice of the Briarde", the town's charm emanates from its location on the banks of the Morin and the remains of fortifications dating back to the Middle Ages. Nineteenth-century artists, including Camille Corot, came to the three fortified islands that make up the village to paint. Visitors walking through the village can see old wash-houses and mills, many of which were used by tanneries and leather-makers until the nineteenth century.
