Towards the middle of the thirteenth century, the village came into the hands of the Kights Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem. It is these knights that built the major part of today’s church.

The superb sculpted door of the church represents the work of each month of the year and the resurrection of the dead.

A life of labour is rewarded by eternal glory, symbolised by Christ in Majesty flanked by Mary and Saint John. Inside, a virgin and child in polychrome stone dating from the fourteenth century and reredo panels in sixteenth century painted wood can be admired. The architecture of the church of St Eliphe is reminiscent of that of the fortified churches proudly perched on their rocky outcrops and dominating the plains of Champenoise Brie.
