The Collegiate Church of Saint Martin de Champeaux is one of the gothic masterpieces of the Ile de France. It is the only remaining vestige of the great college in which some of the most famous theologians of the Middle Ages studied: Abelard and other illustrious scholars from all over medieval Europe flocked here to listen to the teaching of Guillaume de Champeaux. The prosperity of the canons enabled them to build a church of remarkable architectural quality.

The oldest parts of the building, such as the transept, date from the first half of the twelfth century and the rest of the church illustrates the main developments of gothic architecture. The building, completed in the early fourteenth century, has survived virtually intact, enriched at the Renaissance by beautiful stalls, and in the eighteenth century by a great sculpted wooden reredo. Beautiful stained glass and tombstones embellish the light interior.
